We All Scream for Ice Cream. Don’t We? There is a time and a place for everything. Winter is the time for snow and the snow sports we all so enjoy! Many fun things can be made in the snow: snowman, snowballs, snow angels, snow caves…ice cream? The ultimate redneck ice cream recipe: a hilarious sweet treat!
I awoke this dark, cold, snowy December morning. The intensity of the sheets of impregnable snow beyond the window aroused my curiosity. It hasn’t snowed this incredibly hard for years. The snow had begun the night before in a very light and airy fashion. The local forecast of snow showers created a sense of regular doubt and uncertainty…maybe, just maybe I thought, as I headed to hibernate for eight hours.
“Dad, Bruce, Dad, Bruce” I hear from down our hallway. “Did you look out the window? Can we go riding right now, can we, can we?”
I don’t know who was more excited, my kid’s or our guests. All I remember was that my wife was not impressed nor excited. It was early Saturday morning. The snow had turned our home into a house of crazed youngsters. They were aged 25 to 60, no less!
Now this is the winter weather we used to have. Bring it on baby! It was two weeks before Christmas. We had already received enough cold temperatures from earlier storms. These temperatures littered the ground with white bliss. I arose to assess the situation as I put on a pot of strong coffee.
Embellished Snowmobile Tales
I told embellished stories about snowmobiling the prior evening. I also shared verbally enhanced descriptions of wonderfully maintained trails and scenic vistas in New Hampshire. These stories accounted for a great evening of conversation. No phones, no TV, no less!
I went to the side door. It would not open out. The snow was falling so hard you could see a bull moose at five paces. Okay, time for a breakfast of flap jacks and thick country smoked bacon. No need to rush because we are not going riding until this storm breaks.
After breakfast, the storm was still raging. The kids and everyone else headed out to play in the storm without snowmobiles. Just playing in the snow, simple fun. Hour after hour of play and shoveling, we headed back in, tired and hot. I brought in a large pot of fluffy white snow. Must be for the wood stove? Nope, redneck ice cream!
Ultimate Redneck Ice Cream Recipe: A Hilarious Sweet Treat!
- 8-10 cups of fresh fluffy white snow (no yellow or packed snow)
- 1 can of sweetened condensed evaporated milk
- 1- 1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract
- Pure NH maple syrup or chocolate syrup (optional)
Combine snow, evaporated milk and vanilla extract in capable large bowl and mix ingredients with large spoon. Don’t over mix the redneck ice cream! Best created in a cold climate like outside or trail-side, or any situation that is fun. It’s an easy-to-make dessert or in this situation, a late morning cool-off snack! Add maple or chocolate syrup to embellish the flavor, but the vanilla flavor itself is awesome.
Hope you enjoy this one-pot dessert, easy-peasy ultimate redneck ice cream to create while on the trail. Hopefully you can practice in December. If the snow is here, you can. I know for a fact that Santa loves ice cream. Thank you for reading and see you on the trail, Bruce.
