Camp Sno-Mo Tent Site Project

September 30, 2019 by NHSA

Camp Sno-Mo tent site project

After looking at Camp Sno-Mo’s wish list, Louie Perkins, of the Wolfeboro Snowmobile Club, realized the tent sites needed help and brought it to the club’s attention. They decided to take on the project and rebuild the tent platforms and grounds that the club had built 15 years ago.

All of this would not be possible without the generous and ongoing support of the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association. On behalf of each and every camper, Camp Sno-Mo wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the NHSA clubs. Rob Kelly, Camp Sno-Mo

Material needs were calculated and delivered to Tom Willand’s house to be cut to size and assembled. Louie and Tom built a prototype and set a date to build 26 sections that would be put together at the site to make the 13 platforms.

Even the kids volunteered to assemble the tent decks.

The date arrived and with it came a lot of Wolfeboro Club members, ranging in ages 2 to 82-plus. A few Seven Lake Snowmobile members joined in as well. That was a full day and a lot of screws were installed.

Next the platforms were loaded onto Chris Runnals’ trailer. Thank you to the members who showed up to do that task, as it was a heavy one.

The job was just starting, there was much hard work in the days ahead. Prior prep-work included digging a ditch in excess of 500 feet to add new electrical service and lighting to the campsite. The walkway from the lodge to the site now features lamp-posts to light the way.

An updated lighting system was also installed.

Loads of fill were then trucked in to improve the site. It was finally time for assembling the new platforms.

Eager club volunteers were greeted in the morning with donuts, coffee and lots of cold drinks as it was going to be a hot one.

The job started by installing posts in the ground for each corner of the platforms.

Tom decided to have granite plaques engraved, one for each NH County featuring the names of the snowmobile clubs.

There are also plaques representing the NHSA, NH Fish & Game and the Trails Bureau.

Each tent site is now formally named by the corresponding plaque. There is one more plaque in honor of a special young man to our club, Devin Ness. Thank you Brad.

Of course, these workers didn’t think they had done enough so they decided to build a new fire pit. With more dirt work and landscape blocks a wonderful area was created for all to enjoy!

If you are visiting camp take a few minutes to look at the project. It took a lot of time and money. Many dedicated people believe Camp Sno-Mo is a very special place!
