Race Into Winter, the NHSA Grass Drags & Watercross held in Fremont, NH, saw a record-breaking crowd this year! Attendance was 46,500, beating the 2015 all-time record by 200. We’ll take it!
NH Snowmobile Races Draw Record-Breaking Crowd
Although we had some light rain early Saturday, it did not keep the snowmobilers away! Crowds filled the aisles and tents, and the vendors all reported a great day!
Friday’s attendance at the NH Grass Drags and Watercross was up with early arrivals searching out the best deals. The snowmobile swap meet had been expanded last year to include Friday, and it started to fill quickly. Most swappers stayed right through, for the three days. Sunday’s weather was perfect and so were the crowds!
As the committee meets throughout the year, we evaluate what worked well the previous year and what areas need improvements.
If you attended this year, you noticed major improvements to the parking program.
We were able to park more vehicles quickly and efficiently, giving spectators more time to enjoy their day inside the event, instead of waiting in traffic.
To aid in this, an additional parking lot with the capacity to hold another 530 vehicles was used. It was needed on Saturday but as Sunday’s crowds are generally lighter, the 11 lots we use were sufficient to suit the day’s needs.
Blue gate (the entrance closest to the rail bed) was a stream of people from just about where it crosses North Road to the farm! The ticket sellers were amazing in how efficiently they got everyone in!
General camping check-in was revamped with a new staging area that took the camper traffic off Martin Road. It went smoothly as the campers were escorted to their reserved sites. General camping sold out, an overflow lot was added, and that too sold out!
Pit Road was more manageable with three lanes of traffic. Grass drags racer pit check-in was relocated closer to the pit area and that greatly reduced the bottlenecks of the past. (Read race results)
The Rave X shows were incredible! Racing-food-fun-deals, all part of the world-class event known as Race Into Winter that occurs every October down in Fremont.
This event is a huge fundraiser for the NHSA and participating clubs. There are clubs with vendor booths at the event to fundraise. Volunteers from over 30 clubs are instrumental in carrying out the projects needed to transform the farm into the race venue, and back to a farm again. Thanks go out to all of them!
The 2019 Race Into Winter event is dedicated to the memory of committee member Kevin Yelle of the Belmont Bogie Busters. Our hearts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
